The U.N. is spending over $10 million to house some of its Haiti relief workers on a pair of chartered cruise ships

Welcome to the "Love Boat," a lavish chartered cruise ship where many U.N. relief workers are living while they stay in Haiti's ruined capital of Port au Prince, where most residents are homeless. The U.N. is paying over $10 million to rent a pair of ships, because "you have to be in good shape in order to help the Haitians," a senior U.N. official told Fox News.

  3. Yeah, you gotta love it when someone who isn't there lays out a moral judgment on people they haven't even met. This article is nothing but spin and outright lies. Trust me, I AM IN HAITI! Oh, and Fox News can bite my shinny metal ass!

  4. So WFP paid 25,000 USD on top of what is cost to lease the same boat in Venezuela per day, meaning that someone at WFP is making right now 4.5 Million US Dollars in Fees from this deal. I bet that with 4.5 million in whomever pocket his or her ass will be really shinny like metal......

  6. the un is corrupt, has always been corrupt, and the usa needs to get out.....let them try to survive without us....we pay for almost everything and they "dis" us every day....

  7. Not to put a light touch on the situation but as we say in the Fire services "It's their bad day, not ours. We are there to help make it better." Just because the relief workers sleep/relax on the ship doesn't mean it's a vacation for them. They are there to help. They really don't need to get integrated into the society because they are leaving when the work is done. They probably left comfortable positions at home so don't fault them.

  8. WHy is the US still bankrolling the UN? I think the short answer is that it would fall apart b/c no one else will fund it. There is a lesson here.

  9. The "World" Food Program can afford to pull more cruise ships up and house all of the Haitian poor souls that have been devestated by the earthquake. Why not? Just tap a few more nations that can afford it. China? Saudi's? They could probably afford it completely and not even notice the drain on their bank accounts. I'm sure there are enough "World" nations that could afford this without a blink of the eye. BUt would they?

  10. As long as the American taxpayer isn't directly funding this, so what? On a related note, the UN building needs to leave the US and stop draining US funds to support it.

  11. The un has always been a corrupt organization with questionable leadership . I have suggested that the U.N. be moved a third world country to help with their lift their economy and offer jobs to the natives like Kenta for instance. I can promise you if that were to happen many of these diplomatic scoffers would resign. They like the high life of the U.S.

  12. The UN needs just to leave the goods and go home. They are just like Oboma, Reed & Pelosi. Spend & Spend. Why should they care, its not there money. They are only looking out for them selves. They just don't care.

  13. Hey, why not?! The UN has lots of other people's money to spend on luxury accomodations for its elite. Enjoy your Titanic opulence, UN staffers. With any luck, we'll finally have a government that will actually question your fiscal activities before sending you any more dues. Better yet, NYC should terminate your lease and send your organization to someplace like...Haiti.

  14. Where do you all propose volunteers stay? The infrastructure in Haiti is gone. There is nowhere in Haiti that could house all the people who are donating their time and energy to help those in Haiti. For those talking about giving everyone tents, where would you have them pitched? What land is available is being used by Haitians.
