Somalia: WFP contractor says UN allegation baseless

Somaliweyn – Mohammed Omar Hussein

Abdulkadir Noor Enow one of the sub-contractors of the World Food Programme in Somalia who was recently condemned in a report issued by the United Nations has called the condemnation absolutely baseless and propaganda, which is directly meant to defame is personality and exaggeration.

The United Nations has condemned that three of the WFP Somali sub-contractors have diverted the humanitarian food which was assigned for the needy Somalis to the wrong destination.

“I will not deny the fact there is a convoy carrying food for needy people which was diverted from its appropriate destination and this was done by armed militias at Suuqa Xoolaha in northwest of Mogadishu and this food was looted and is not some thing which we meant to do it deliberately” said Enow.

Enow also added that the convoy was stooped by an officer in the Islamic Courts Union, and has ordered the residents in the area he has earlier mentioned to take the food, and the date when the incident occurred was exactly on the 25th of September 2008, as he has said.

“We have submitted this case to the Hawiya traditional elders and the top officials of the Islamic Courts Union by then, but nothing has been done about the issue which we have forwarded to them” added Enow.

Eventually Mr. Enow has said that his company has compensated the World Food Programme for the inconvenience which has happened.
