Somalia: U.S. Says Would Continue Aid Support for Refugees

Somalia — A senior U.S. refugee official has Tuesday held press conference in the US embassy to Kenya and said that the US administration would continue supporting the Somali refugees mainly those of comps in eastern Kenya.

Reuben Brigety, a US aid official said during his press conference that the Americans used to help the feeble people in and out of the country via the aid agencies involving the aiding process.

The official said the Obama administration was concerned about reports that refugee camps in eastern Kenya were being used as a recruitment site for combatants for Somalia's warring groups.

Reuben Brigety said that such action might infringe on the neutrality of the Dadaab camps by declining to detail in his remarks Tuesday to journalists.

The Associated Press reported late last year that thousands of people, including children, had been secretly recruited and trained inside Kenya to battle Islamist fighters in neighboring Somalia.

Kenyan and Somali officials denied such reports and the Horn of Africa nation has suffered from anarchy and chaos for 19 years.

The statement comes as the world Food Program (WFP)'s aid operation in southern Somalia is yet suspended.
